In Gloucester and its surrounding towns, children often lack opportunities to explore and engage with the natural environment, especially the hidden world of rivers like the Severn.
This project is dedicated to changing that by providing interactive and immersive learning experiences, both in the classroom and by the river, for schools and local communities.
Our community engagement team aim to engage at least 750 children in fun, exploratory, and inspiring river-themed outdoor activities. These activities are designed to rebuild confidence and self-esteem while connecting communities to nature and their local river.
If you are linked with a school or community group and would like to get involved, please contact our River Engagement Officer, Becky Titchard, at admin@severnriverstrust.com.
So far, the project has engaged with schools, libraries, and local venues to provide outdoor learning opportunities in Gloucester, Stroud and the Forest of Dean district. With riverside visits on the horizon, the project continues to grow from strength to strength.
Alice Fallon, Head of Community Engagement at Severn Rivers Trust said,
“We were absolutely thrilled that our funding bid was successful for the Gloucestershire outdoor learning project. By targeting activities at young people from underserved communities, Severn Rivers Trust will seek to remove barriers to outdoor river engagement ensuring every child can enjoy being outdoors and is given a chance to develop a lifelong love for nature.”
