Working strategically to benefit the rivers, communities and landscapes of the Welsh Severn.

The Project

Severn Uplands Green Recovery

We are increasing our capacity to benefit the rivers communities and landscapes of the Welsh Severn.

Through this project we are making sure that the communities in the Welsh Severn have a voice on regional strategic partnerships and coordinating project development and funding bids to help meet environmental legislation to reverse decades of environmental decline.

The ultimate objective is to ensure a community partnership approach to an integrated catchment restoration across the Welsh Severn to restore the  natural heritage using a sound financial model to blend public and private  finance.

This is a green recovery project funded by the Welsh Government, administered by the Trustees of the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF).

Project aims:

-       Work with the Severn Uplands Catchment Partnership (CaBA) to identify current river-focused projects and seek out potential for new partnerships and areas of work for the future.

-       Review stakeholders currently participating in the CaBA partnership and make a plan for improving representation on the group. Determine priorities for the coming year.

-       Ensure Welsh communities, businesses and stakeholders are well represented within strategic project development and fundraising activities for the river Severn.

-       Develop at least five ‘shovel ready’ river projects which can be delivered when funds are successfully raised.

-       Submit at least one major project / funding application for river-focused work in the Welsh Uplands.

-       Engage with ten local companies to explore ways that they can support the Welsh Severn through sponsorship, corporate volunteering or other corporate partnership opportunities.
