A fantastic partnership project with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, the project will enable fish passage up stream along the Cinderford Brook.
Project aims:
· A fantastic partnership project with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, the project will enable fish passage up stream along the Cinderford Brook as well as create pools and channels as fish refuge sat low water during dry periods of the year.
Funders: European Regional Development Fund
Major successes:
· 2 small weirs removed completely allowing free passage
· Installation of a rock ramp that has created a ‘rocky’ slope for fish to swim up and over the small weir that could not be removed
· A 4th barrier for fish passage overcome by laying in rocks to alter the flow of the river into channels and creating deeper water
· The successful transfer of protected White Clawed Crayfish under licence, to other parts of the Cinderford Brook to protect the local population
