The beat is best fished with 2-5 wt, 7-8ft rods and waders are advisable, but the wading is fairly easy.

The lower section if in a narrow wooded valley and closely follows the disused railway line which provides good access to the river all the way along beat. The upper stretch is from an unimproved meadow between the river and the railway line with access at either ends of a stock fence (no stiles) or approximately ¾ of the way along via a bridleway (easier access due to bridleway gate). The beat starts at the road bridge over the river and disused railway at SO 166936 (marked on the map) and ends at the south eastern end of the field where the river joins back alongside the railway at SO 172925 (marked on map).

Parking is best at the northern (bottom) end across a small bridge to grid reference SO 167936 (marked on map) where there is a small layby with Powys County Council signs saying no fly tipping. The box will be on a post by the parking area. From here you drop down the slope to the river and walk along the disused railway line turning left (river on your right) under the road bridge on the right hand bank. Access could also be via the bridleway through Upper Maenllwyd but there is no good parking here.

Description
Before fishing anglers must call the Riverbend Caravan Park on 01938 820356 or email on chrisriverbend@hotmail.com. There is no fishing on bank holidays as the park is too busy and there is nowhere to park cars.
When booking they will let people know where best to park but it will most likely be by the reception office or on the touring field (see map).

The beat is upstream of the park. To get there walk through the touring field to a pedestrian gate by the river.
Cross the footbridge and go through the field gate on the right hand side.
The beat here is for both banks (see map Point 1) from the footbridge (SJ 011108) until you reach the hedge on the RHB (Point 2) (SJ 008109) and then it is just the left hand bank until Point 3 (SJ 007111).
The river can flood very quickly during and after rain.

Delightful Afon Tanat tributary epitomizes small stream Trout fishing. Some good pools, fast runs and fair easy wading. The fish are free rising responding well to either small dry flies, wet flies or nymph tactics.

The beat is best fished with 2-5 wt, 7-8ft rods and waders are advised.

4 Voucher beat.

Length of beat 4.8kms (approx 3 miles)

Afon Cynllaith - Tynewydd farm

The beat starts at the upstream point at the road bridge near Pont y Glascoed (Point 1) (SJ 214275) and ends at the road bridge (Point 2) near Penybont (SJ 214238). It follows farmland all the way through the valley.

Parking is at Tynewydd farm yard (Point 3) (SJ 207270). As you come over the bridge the house is in front, the yard is on the right, just on the left is the beginning of a short track to a field gate – please park there without blocking the gate. The box is on a post here. Once depositing the voucher you could also park at the car park next to Bryn Derw (Point 4) (SJ 205257) and get onto the river from the road bridge at (SJ 203 259)

A one mile stretch of double bank, wadable fishing. THREE VOUCHERS

This is a very small river. A tributary of the Severn. It can be very overgrown in summer and in low water conditions above the bridge is virtually unfisable, however with a little water, in early and late season this little river can be a gem.

There are a few deeper pools below the bridge, but the river consists mainly of short fast riffles and bends, running through a wooded area.

Park in the lay-by after Dick Bridge map reference SO 778 680 (coming from the Stourport upon Severn end of the A451), the voucher box is located just through the gate on this lay-by.

The fishery is best accessed via the forestry track (do not attempt to drive up this track, or park on it) on the other side of Dick Bridge at SO 778 681.

Species present: Brown Trout.

Potentially Grayling, if any caught or sighted please let the SRT know.

Season: 18^th March to 7^th October (inc)

Ideally fished with: 6 to 7.5ft 2 to 3wt rod.

Restrictions: Fly fishing only. Catch and release. No dogs.
