Afon Cain – Pont y Forwyn
Afon Cain – Pont y Forwyn
About a third of mile stretch of double bank, wadable fishing. THREE VOUCHERS
This is a beautiful bit of the river Cain. The habitat varies greatly with sharp, slow bends, deep pools and riffles. Overhanging and fallen trees provide endless refuge to an alert and timid trout population. Several very deep pools hold some eager trout. A slow, stealthy approach is required to make the most of the angling.
Species present: Brown Trout.
Potentially Grayling, if any caught or sighted please let the SRT know.
Season: 3rd March to 30th September (inc)
Ideally fished with: 6 to 7.5ft 2 to 3wt rod.
Wading difficulty: 3/5 Chest waders required for some of the deep pools. Some of these pools are too deep to wade when the river is up and can be 5 ft even in low water conditions. The Cain responds quickly to rain and levels may rise extremely quickly
Restrictions: Fly fishing only. Catch and release. No dogs.
Parking and Voucher box:
Do not park in the nearby lay-by. Parking is up the drive toward Pont -Y-Forwen house immediately on the left on the grass verge. Do not block the drive. The voucher box is on the telegraph pole, try and park as near to this as possible please Be very careful when walking up or down the road to access the river or return to your car. The blind bend is very dangerous.
Access Point: SJ 209 204 through gate
Finish: SJ 209 206
