Afon Cain – Llanfyllin Town

Afon Cain – Llanfyllin Town

About half a  mile stretch of double bank, wadable fishing. THREE VOUCHERS

This stretch of river runs through the town of Llanfyllin. The local community have been recently involved in making improvements to the river for the benefit of all. You will see the newly created wetlands area next to the car park.

The river here consists of fast shallows and some deeper pools. It is overhung in places by tree growth, but is relatively easy to fish for the Cain.

Species present: Brown Trout.

Potentially Grayling, if any caught or sighted please let the SRT know.

Season: 3rd March to 30th September (inc)

Ideally fished with: 6 to 7.5ft 2 to 3wt rod.

Wading difficulty: 1/5 Thigh  waders required although there are some parts that can be fished from the bank. Some of these pools are too deep to wade when the river is up and would require chest waders at those times.. The Cain responds quickly to rain and levels may rise extremely quickly

Restrictions: Fly fishing only. Catch and release. No dogs.

Parking and Voucher box: SJ 141 197

Start: SJ 143 196

Finish: SJ 139 199

The river best accessed directly from path from car park.

Roving Vouchers purchased from the Severn River Trust can also be used to obtain fishing on similar schemes – please see www.wildtroutfishing.co.uk, this includes schemes such as the Wye and Usk Foundations scheme. Their scheme presently includes beats in the Severn catchment

Please note that vouchers purchased from the SRT in 2011 will also be able to be used on SRT beats during 2012. They would not normally be carried over, but in this case will be. 2011 vouchers from other trusts passport schemes will not be valid on SRT beats in 2012 and neither will SRT 2011 vouchers be valid in 2012 on other river trusts schemes.
