Angling Bye-laws

A full copy of the by laws pertaining to the EA’s midland region (which covers the Severn Catchment in England) can be downloaded here.

This is the situation on Rivers (  canals and still waters have different rules)

Salmon

• Salmon Close Season is from 8 October to 31 January (inclusive)
• Catch and return is strictly enforced from 1 Feb to 16 June.
• Fly or spinner only (no worming) from 1 Feb to 16 June.

Sea Trout,  Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout.

• Close season 8 October to 17 March inclusive.

Coarse Fish

• Close season 15 March to 15 June inclusive.

Eels

No river fishing for Eels during coarse close season. Except with a hook with a gape of not less than 12.7 mm (0.5″)

Wales

Part of the Severn Catchment is covered by the EA’s Wales region which has separate by laws. These can be downloaded here

All anglers should be aware of these by laws before they go fishing and obviously also posses the appropriate EA licence, which can be purchased on line here, or from Post Offices.
