£23,000 to £25,000 per annum
The Severn Rivers Trust is an independent environmental charity established to secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of the rivers, streams, watercourses and water bodies in the Severn catchment and to advance the education of the public in the management or water and the wider environment. The trust is now undergoing an exciting period of rapid growth and is seeking to recruit a Catchment Advisor for the Upper Avon and Leam sub-catchment.
The Upper Avon Catchment Partnership is an advice and incentive programme to reduce diffuse pollution from agriculture in the Upper River Avon, focusing on The Leam sub-catchment. It is funded and delivered in partnership by Severn Trent Water, Catchment Sensitive Farming (CSF) and the Environment Agency.
The Catchment Advisor’s responsibilities include developing, promoting and implementing an advice programme, which engages with local farmers, agronomists and stakeholders to address key pollution issues. Regular reporting of progress is also required.
The post is funded for two years by Severn Trent Water but the applicant will be employed by the Severn Rivers Trust. The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal and IT skills. You will need to be a dynamic and innovative communicator, able to build effective and influential relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including those that are difficult to reach and ‘blockers’ of change. A proven track record of successfully working with the farming community and interest groups is therefore crucial.
A considerable history of working in the agricultural sector will be essential, along with qualifications in BASIS Soil and Water, Crop Protection and FACTS. You will be assertive and a self starter, with strong organisational skills. Experience of agri-environment schemes and resource protection are also desirable.
The post would ideally suit someone with a good understanding of water pollution from agriculture and knowledge of farming in the Upper Avon. A full valid UK driving licence is essential. If you believe you have the passion, commitment and skills to be successful in this role, then tell us why when you send your CV to:
The Director, Severn Rivers Trust, Lydbrook Cottage, 4 Duthrop Road, Heythrop, Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, OX7 5TL.
Closing Date for applications: Friday 15th July 2011.
